Friday, May 24th Events:

NABO Convention Meeting

The meeting will be held at Wool Growers Restaurant from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

NABO Bizi Emankorra Award Presentations

The Bizi Emankorra recipients will be presented with an award @ California State University Bakersfield Institute for Basque Studies.  A concert by Esti Markez Taldea will be immediately following.

Saturday, May 25th Events:

Mus Tournament

The Kern County Basque Club will host a Mus tournament at the clubhouse on Saturday, May 25th.  Mus registration will begin at 7:30 a.m., and the tournament will begin at 8:00 a.m.  Everyone is welcome to participate.  The entry fee is $40.00 per player, including lunch and the chance to win a first-place prize of $500 per team or a second-place prize of $250.  Kathy Laverty and Lorea Laverty will be running the tournament, and if you plan on playing, you must register!  Please contact Kathy no later than May 21st at (661) 472-1362 or e-mail k_iturriria@yahoo.com.

NABO Pilota Finals

The Kern County Basque Club will host the 2024 NABO Pilota finals on Saturday, May 25th.  The finals will begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 3:00 p.m.   More information will be provided by NABO.

“Txerriki-Besta” Pork-fest Contest

The Kern County Basque Club will host the “Txerri-Besta” on Saturday, May 25th, at 3:00 p.m. at the KCBC.  The following three categories will be judged: 1. Chorizo 2. Lukainka (with and without paprika) 3. Tripota/morcilla.  Contestants must bring 5 pounds of their product, which will be cooked on-site.  Those interested in participating or who have questions about the contest, please contact the Chair, Valerie Arrechea, at etcharren@msn.com.

Basque Dance Performance & Dinner

The Kern County Basque Club will host a Tri-Tip dinner on Saturday, May 25th at 6:30 p.m.   The cost is Adult $30 Pre-sale or $35 after May 1st/Children $20; the Pre-order form is below. The 2024 Bizi Emankorra recipients will be acknowledged again, followed by a dance performance by the KCBC Adult Dancers and visiting dance groups.    There will be music and dance by Luhartz from Euskadi from 9 to 11 p.m.

Sunday, May 26th Events:

KCBC 50th Annual Basque Festival

The Kern County Basque Club’s 50th Annual Basque Festival will include a Catholic mass, NABO Gateau Basque Competition, barbeque lamb lunch (pre-order form is below), Esti Markez Taldea, dance performances, professional handball players from Euskadi, and a dance with music provided by Luhartz.  A day sure to be filled with family, friends, and Basque culture!  Aupa Bakersfield!!!

Gateau Basque Contest

The Kern County Basque Club will host a Gateau Basque Contest sponsored by NABO on Sunday, May 26th. All participants must drop off their cake between 11:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. at the table next to the ticket booth outside.  Awards will be given to the first and second-place winners.  Following the judging, people will have the opportunity to purchase ¾ of a Gateau Basque Cake.  All proceeds will go towards Udaleku scholarships.
