Basque Festival

Ongi Etorri to the Kern County Basque Club’s 45th annual Basque Festival.

Preparations are on the way and we will be needing volunteers to help us make this Festival a successful one. If you would like to volunteer, please contact one of the board members.

Below are a couple of hotels to book your stay in Bakersfield for the festival.


We have reserved rooms for out of town guests attending the picnic at The Doubletree. The Doubletree is offering a special rate of $79/night plus a 12.2% occupancy tax.  Contact one of the following numbers to make your reservation (661) 323-7111, (661) 426-7914 or 1-888-779-4694; be sure to tell the receptionist there are blocked rooms for the Kern County Basque Club with the code C-KCB that you would like to reserve.  There are only a limited number of rooms so make your reservation ASAP!

The Sheraton Hotel is also offering a special of $97/night that must be booked by May 13th. Contact Jessica at 661-862-7423 and mention it is for the Basque Festival to receive the special rate. There is a city-wide event making availability for rooms limited during the Memorial Day weekend. Book your rooms NOW!

8:30 a.m. – Mus Tournament ($35 per player-includes lunch)

          *1st Place Team – $500

          *2nd Place Team – $250

12-1:30 p.m. – Lunch – Adults $20; Children/Honorary Members $15

1:00 pm-5:00 pm- Paleta and Pelota games featuring local players

2:30 pm- Presentation for children and adults by the visiting musicians from Nafarroa

5:00 p.m. – Pelota/Handball Game – Professional Handball Players from ASPE in Euskadi:

Barriola, Irusta, Mendizabal III and Lasa

“Nafarroako Ahotsak eta Doinuak” – visiting musicians (Iñaki Reta, Marta Peruga, José Luis Urbén, Carolina Milagro & Marcos Pérez) will perform songs from Nafarroa on Saturday and Sunday.

After the handball games we encourage you to visit one of our famous Basque Restaurants here in Bakersfield. Please go enjoy dinner and drinks with family and friends. The Kern County Basque Club is so grateful to the generous donations and continued contribution to our culture throughout the year. 10:00 a.m. – Mass by Monsignor Craig Harrison, along with KCBC Klika & Choir

12-2 p.m. – Lunch: BBQ Lamb; Adults – $25 and Honorary Members/Children 12 and under – $20

2:30 p.m. – KCBC Dancers & Klika perform

5:00 p.m. – Lukainka sandwiches and ham/cheese sandwiches – $8

5:00 p.m. – Pelota/Handball Game – Pilotariak from Euskadi

7:30 p.m. – Dance – Music by AMERIKANUAK (Jean Flesher Band)

8:30 p.m. – Drawing – $5 a ticket or 5 tickets for $20
