Basque Festival

Ongi Etorri to the Kern County Basque Club’s 44th annual Basque Festival. Preparations are on the way and we will be needing volunteers to help us make this Festival a successful one. If you would like to volunteer, please contact one of the board members.

Below are a couple of different hotels to book your stay in Bakersfield for the festival.

The Marriot at the Convention Center $94/night. The phone number is 661-323-1900 ext 1015, Speak with Sara Walker and mention it’s for the Basque Picnic to get the special rate. Be sure to book your room by May 6th; book now because this hotel is downtown and in a great location as
well as being easily accessible to the Basque Club.The hotel will block only a limited number of rooms.

The Sheraton is also offering a competitive room rate of $109/night that must be booked by May 13th. Contact Jessica at 661-862-7423. Be sure to mention Basque Festival to get the $109 rate!

There is a city wide event so availability for rooms could be limited for Memorial Day Weekend. Book your rooms asap. Hope to see you here!

8:00 a.m. – Mus Tournament: $35 per player (Lunch included)

10 a.m-5 p.m. -Pelota Biltzarra Youth & Adult Handball Games that will feature players from Bakersfield and Chino.

12-2 p.m. – Lunch- $12, includes Lomo con pimientos, green and tomato salad, or just a Sandwich for $8

5:00 p.m. – Pelota/Handball game: Pelotaris from Euskadi

After the handball games we encourage you to visit any of our famous Basque Restaurants here in Bakersfield. Please go enjoy dinner and drinks with family and friends. The Kern County Basque Club is so grateful to the generous donations and continued contribution to our culture throughout the year. 11:00 a.m.- Aizkolariak & Herrikirolak Exhibition- Wood Chopping Competition

12-2 p.m. – Lunch:  BBQ Lamb Adults – $22.00

2:00 p.m. – Dance groups & Klika perform

4:30 p.m. – Lukainka Sandwiches and Ham/Cheese Sandwiches -$8

5:00 p.m. – Pelota/Handball Game: Players from Euskadi

7:30 p.m. -Dance: Music by The Jean Flesher Band

8:30 p.m. – Drawing: $5 a ticket or 5 tickets for $20.

There are four handball players from Euskadi that will be playing handball on Saturday and Sunday.
